Claus-Peter Hälsig has over 30 years of industrial experience in various aspects of refinery operation and refinery processes. He is located in Haarlem, The Netherlands and holds as Vice President for Process Engineering & Technology responsibilities for the Europe, Middle East, Africa region as well as Russia.
Before joining Fluor Daniel in Irvine, California in 1993, Mr Hälsig worked since 1986 for British Petroleum in Sunbury/UK in various functions, leading a refinery support team which provided worldwide technical and scientific support to BP’s refineries. This included input into refinery configuration studies and evaluating refinery processing requirements to meet clean fuels quality targets in the US and Europe.
From 1980 to 1986 Mr Hälsig worked in the R&D Center of BP in Germany and was responsible for the technical service to the BP’s German refineries as well as for the development, scale up and commercialization of refinery processes. Mr Hälsig is a recognized expert in the area of refining, Master Planning, conceptual, technical-economically feasibility studies, clean fuels manufacture, heavy oil upgrading, consulting on the refining – petrochemicals – chemicals interface, assessing the impact of clean fuels (incl. marine fuels) legislation on refining operation. He has been regularly invited to publicize, to give presentations, to serve as chair at several large international conferences and to provide his expertise at numerous technical panel discussions.
Dr Hälsig holds a Dr.-Ing. degree in Chemical Technology of the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Member of the Energy Institute in the UK.
